Mission Beach is a community built on a sandbar between the Pacific Ocean and Mission Bay. Part of the city of San Diego, California. Mission Beach stretches along the ocean for about two miles. The mouth of the San Diego River to the south, Mission Bay Park to the east, and the communities of Pacific Beach to the north bounds it. A boardwalk runs along both the ocean and bayside beaches of the community. The main thoroughfare through Mission Beach is Mission Boulevard. The community is divided into South Mission, a peninsula, and North Mission. At the beach’s southern end is a grassy jetty with parking and a walkway that extends into the sea.
In Mission Beach, San Diego, many homes were built as summer homes in the 1930s and 19 0s, dating back to the 1920s. The rare Airplane Bungalow on Manhattan Court was built in 192. Mission Beach developed later than its neighbors, Ocean Beach to the south and Pacific Beach to the north, due to problems with development on sandy ground. As a result of the new official subdivision in 191, encouraging land sales in neighboring communities and a new wooden bridge connecting Mission Beach to Ocean Beach, John D. Spreckels put a small subdivision up for sale.
The attractions near Mission Beach are Sea World at Mission Bay Park and the historic Belmont Park Amusement Park at South Mission Beach. Belmont Park was initially built by John D. In 1925, Spreckels promoted property sales and his electric railway. Belmont Park features the original Giant Dipper wooden coaster and new rides such as Wave House’s Flowrider, Vertical Plunge, Crazy Cars, Tilt a Whirl, Liberty Carousel, Crazy Submarine, Beach Blaster, and Chaos.
