Balboa Park

Balboa Park is a 1,200-acre (4.9 km2) urban cultural park in San Diego, California, United States. In addition to open spaces, green areas, green belts, gardens, walking paths, museums, attractions, and the San Diego Zoo. There are also many entertainment venues, gift shops, and restaurants within the park’s boundaries. Established in 1835, the park site is one of the oldest in the United States dedicated to public recreation. Balboa Park is managed and maintained by the San Diego Parks Department.   Balboa Park hosted the Panama-California Exposition of 1915-16 and the California Pacific International Exposition of 1935-36, leaving an architectural mark. The park and its historic buildings were designated National Historic Landmark in the National Historic District in 1977 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.   Geography

The park is rectangular in shape, bounded by Sixth Avenue to the west, Upas Street to the north, 28th Street to the east, and Russ Boulevard to the south. The quadrangle was improved by adding the Marston Hills Natural Area to the park’s northwest corner. In contrast, the southwest corner of the rectangle is part of the Cortez Hill area of ​​downtown San Diego and San Diego High School, which is separated from the park by Interstate 5. Roosevelt Middle School also enters the northern part of the park.
